Welcome to the forums. Benchmarks can be limited by the CPU and GPU. Rooting might help some, but I don't think it will improve it much.

Are you experiencing lag or sluggishness in normal use?

There is a stutter whenever I scroll. Apps take long to open. Wifi and data signals just aren't as good as they should be.

Do you have any apps that Samsung or your carrier put on that you don't use? You can try disabling them to see if that helps.

I disabled all the pre installed Google, Samsung and AT&T apps. It won't let me disable some things that aren't necessary like the stock internet or email apps. Also the live wallpaper picker isn't able to be disabled. Whatever is wrong with the phone I'm sure I can't resolve it without root. I'm sure the phone was just fine until it entered America and AT&T ruined it.

I say that they ruin the phone because it seems like every other version of this phone runs just fine. Also, any other model of this phone can be rooted.

AT&T does lock down their phones. The other variants may have a root process, but if AT&T locked the bootloader, then root may be near impossible.

I have been able to root other AT&T phones such as the S3 and the Captivate. Maybe AT&T and Samsung got away with having an unrootable phone because developers don't care to spend much time on this phone (that only applies to this model). This phone was discontinued by Samsung not long after its unveiling. As much as I like this phone for various reasons I'm leaning towards the LG V10 or Nexus 5X as a replacement. They both seem very nice and they both take my kind of SIM card. Can you verify if the Nexus phones come unlocked? They seem to come from Google and not be SP branded Thank for your help.

The S3 was among the last major Samsung phones to be easily rooted. It went downhill fast after that.

I am using a Nexus 5X on AT&T. I love that phone. It's my current daily driver.

But still running Android. That phone will be locked down as well.

If you want a phone that is easy to root and play around with, that will be the Nexus.

Personally a bit big for my tastes, but physical size aside, I think the 6p is a great phone.
