Why doesn't my computer (Windows7) recognise my Samsung Galaxy A3 phone?

I want to download the photos on my phone to my computer but the computer hasn't registered the connection to the phone's USB. What can I do to fix it? I'm sure I've done it previously.

Change mode to mtp

Make sure you are using the correct lead and you have Samsung USB drivers installed. The connection should be MTP. Access is via swipe down menu on homescreen. If still not working does it show in Win7 Device Manager?
