Lost Contacts :'(

[AC Question]

I have always had an android phone and had my contacts synced with my gmail account. I just upgraded to the V10 and when I synced my gmail contacts I was only able to get one phone contact. I still have some of the email ones, but I don't care about those. I tried to turn off background/auto sync, clear the contact data, and then resync. That didn't work. I logged onto gmail on the computer and checked my contacts in my email and they are not listed there either. Am I SOL? (Thought this didn't happen in the 21st century)
