My brand new tablet won't boot

[AC Question]

I got my 2 daughters each an android tablet for Christmas. Same brand and everything. One works fine. The other will turn on, go to the screen that shows the brand name, and then the screen goes to black. It's still "on" but has nothing on the screen. We kept turning it off, waiting a while, and turning it back on, and at one point, it did a "recovery" but I have no idea how it got to that point. It certainly wasn't anything we did to it. Finally it did work for a while but then the screen went to black again. I have gone into safe mode and did a factory reset, I have cleared cache, I have done hard resets, and rebooted a dozen times. I can't seem to find any advice that doesn't say "reboot." OK that's awesome, but what if rebooting doesn't work?
