Is there anyway of get my phone to a usable state?

OK, So I had a LG G3 but it got damaged so I had to gowngrade to my dad's HTC Evo 4g supersonic. Im fine with just having a phone and sms. But I would love to have legitimate apps. However, my firmware is at 2.3.5 and It says there's no update available. So i figured id be able to get to google play thru play music, but that wont download. Isthere anyway for me to be able to get google play and apps on this phone? thanks

Google Play was called Market at the time that device was released. Do you have that app on the phone?
