My 4.4 phone cannot install apps to SD memory. the ROM is 8Gb. Why?

AC Question

The phone is rooted and core services are all there. I have ES File Explorer and little else, nothing unnecessary.
I wanted to add YouTube app, Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps. I wanted to add Skype.
The option to install to RAM was removed, when the Android OS updated itself.
I'm not too cheap to buy a phone with more ROM. However I'm stubborn to capitulate here because there is fundamental manipulation of the user going on here.
I've heard all the normal explanations. My take on it, is that the reason is very complex, and most people would not understand and explanation, OR, there's money involved. Is the Android team going to continue this ruthless practice, or should I just switch to Windows and ask all my friends to switch, in the future?
