Can I delete the old stock apps?

I want to free up room and get rid of apps that I do not use. The stock Samsung message app was changed to I think Verizon text app. Can I delete the Samsung message app without any issues to get rid of apps taking up space and not being used. Likewise, I do not use the stock calendar app either and switched to Business Calendar. Can I delete the stock calendar as well since I am not using it either without causing problems?

Those apps are part of the "system" portion of storage, it's locked and they can't be removed without rooting the device. If you root the device and remove those apps, all bets are off for getting OS updates.
