Why did the ios upgrade to 5.01 change screen and app settings?

My Samsung S4 was updated to ios 5.01 and the World Clock lost the flags next to Country, fonts changed which makes it hard to read. The screen lock pattern field is smaller so will not accept my fat finger swipe.
