Samsung Note 5 'Dock is connected' but nothing is connected

Verizon Samsung Note 5 about 3 months old. Started to keep beeping and showing notification that Dock is connected. Would not charge unless WiFi off and then if I completely powered off. Also started having a screen about Samsung VR Gear popup with Next. I disabled the Samsung VR Gear and was good for a few days with phone working normally and charging normally.
Now it's doing the Dock connected thing again and went into Odin mode once.
What the heck is going on?

It sounds as if there's some dirt in the USB port or the port is defective. Various shorts on lines in the port tell the phone that the dock is connected, that it should charge, etc.
