You want "Export Contacts as VCF".

Make sure they're all Google contacts. If they're Device or Phone contacts, see the Contacts section of Backing up an Android Device. Then they'll all be backed up at Google Contacts. If you put the same Google account into the new phone and leave contact sync on (that's the default), by the time you set the phone up, your contacts will be in the new phone. (If you don't want your contacts on Google's server [some people don't, although I don't know why - any Google employee found looking through data like that has no problem with Google - being in prison for 10 years automatically terminates your employment, and Google does prosecute employees who break the law using Google equipment], you can just turn sync off, go to Google Contacts and delete them all.

(But if your phone is ever lost, stolen or destroyed, a good backup of everything, updated weekly [or monthly at the very least] will save you a LOT of work.)
