I updated my android but it isnt updated!

I tried updating from Lollipop to Marshmallow today. I waited about an hour, and it never said it failed or anything. But when I turned my phone back on, I went to settings and my Android version is still 5.1! What happened and how do I update correctly?

Which phone do you have? Did you try an OTA update or did you try flashing a Marshmallow ROM?
