Why Doesn't Email Sync Properly on Android 5.1.1?

Ever since my Samsung Galaxy S6 upgraded to Andorid 5.1.1, email synchronization has become completely erratic and unreliable. This is both with the native Email app and Gmail. I never know when it's accurate, up to date, or going to "freeze" and stop syncing for some significant amount of time.

Is this piece of **** mobile email situation just something I have to live with forever, or is there any hope that Samsung and/or Android will get off their *** and fix the piece of crap?

I have an Edge and have 5 accounts syncing fine. I have found deleting and setting up the accounts on the phone from scratch can help.
