Why won't my android connect to my laptop, when it has before?

I have always used my Acer mini laptop, with Windows 7, to store my sons baby pictures, from my phone. I plugged in vice usb just last month, and transferred the pics just fine. Now all of a sudden, I go to do it today, and it says Windows doesn't not recognize this device. Same laptop, same phone. I don't understand. They are both up to date, I haven't factory reset either device, or changed anything. I even tried restarting both, and using debugging mode. Nothing works. I am do bummed. I can't download anymore apps or anything, until I put these pictures on my laptop, to clear up space, and I'm afraid of losing these photos. Someone please give me some simple suggestions, as I don't know a whole lot about computers. Also, the laptop has no internet access, but it hasn't for months either.
