Please help - Novice with an mxq box that won't work.

Just purchased an mxq quad core android box. I have got it all connected and it turns on. It's connected to the Internet and the browser works. My problem is that none of the apps will work. They won't update when I try I get update error. Or update failed check ota server agent. Please can anyone help? I'm with BT infinity for my broadband and I have the smart set up turned off. Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Does the box use Google Play Store, or some other 3rd party app store? How are the apps trying to update?
