Note 3 buttons not working

So my friend gave me her old Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the menu button and back buttons only work when using the pen, not when touching with my finger. When I touch the menu button it pops open a search function and the back button is completely unresponsive. I have tried factory reseting the phone multiple times and reinstalling the OS and I opened the phone to make sure the wires were seated properly and nothing has worked. It's just so odd that the stylus makes the buttons work and the menu button is mapped incorrectly. Has anyone had this problem or any solution or suggestions? Thanks

I believe that pen and finger work in different ways. If you can't get the buttons working properly, you could try a soft keys- or pie control-type app from the Play Store.
