I have a bad memory. Sometimes I need to enter a PIN after calling a conference number. The PIN is documented in an email/note/schedule etc. I have to write it down with a pen and paper so that I can enter it after calling because I don't remember the number. While I know how to switch between two applications, it usually is not quick enough (I also have fat fingers) and the system always times out before I get the entire PIN entered.

Is there an application (or feature of the android phone) that will allow me to see my PIN from a different application (or jot it down in said application) while the dialer keypad is displayed?

There is, but it depends on the capability of the phone you have. On Samsung phones, it's called "Multi window", on LG it's called "Dual Window". Some other makers may have the capability as well. Not all phones have the capability, as far as I know, and not all apps are multiwindow compatible.

What kind of phone do you own?

I own a Note 5, but the phone app (which i'm using to dial) doesn't appear to be multiwindow compatible. Perhaps I don't understand how to get the dialer into a second window, but when I hold the left physical button, the message is:

"The current screen does not support split screen view. Select two apps to open in split screen view."

Ok, I'm a little confused here. Are you using the "default" dialer, or a third party dialer you installed from Playstore or somewhere? When you launch the Multiwindow pane, do you see a dialer in the list? If you do, when you tap on the dialer icon, the dialer should launch in a small window on your screen.

I own a Note 4, and the default phone dialer shows up as one of the Multiwindow selections.

but when I hold the left physical button
I have no idea what button you're talking about here. What button is this? Does it belong to an app? EDIT... Ok, I think you must mean the button on the left of the Home button. On the Note 5, pressing and holding on the left button launches the multiwindow pane... on the Note 4, it's the "right" button that does this.

    EDIT AGAIN...
Can you launch your email program from the Multiwindow pane? Does the email app show up in Mulitwindow?
Does your dialer show up in Multiwindow?

If so, launch your email program, get to the message that has the pin information, and then launch the dialer.
