I cant sync my google contacts on htc one m8

Hi, Since a recent software update I've had a couple of problems. It crashed the other day, drained the battery and took a good while before I could get it to switch back on. When it did come back on, it did another Android update and all of my phone contacts disappeared (everything else more or less still there). Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Were all of the contacts originally saved to your Google account? Go to contacts.google.com on your computer browser--are all of your contacts there?

If so, then on the phone, go to Settings>Accounts-Google>[your account], and make sure Contacts is checked on.

Also, try wiping the cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10672

I have the same situation.
All my contacts are on Google.com but when I try to sync on my phone, I get the message " sync is currently experiencing problems and will be back shortly" only with the contacts and gmail, everything else in Google syncs.
