Why can I not sync calendar events between the Samsung Galaxy 4 and Tab 3 Lite?

I have tried downloading the google calendar app on both devices. No luck. I prefer the original apps- the s planner and the calendar-and cannot understand why 2 Samsung devices will not sync.
