    I called my carrier about switching my phone to 4G LTE and they said they had it on their end and all i had to do was restart my phone

    Is it possible your device is not LTE/4G equipped or was initially bought for a carrier with different LTE bands.

    Many international Samsung models were 3G only, for example.

    Have you tried Settings - ( Wireless and Mobile Networks - More) Mobile Networks - Preferred Network Type.

    If it's a new sim in a phone you had previously used, perhaps re - seating the sim card and waiting 30 minutes might help.
    Your Access Point Names (apn) settings should be set already if you have 3G.
