How can I get Google Navigation to track along with me?

I am trying to use the Google Navigation app on a Moto X (1st Gen). When I start the app it quickly finds my location and calculates the route. However,when start driving, the blue dot never moves. I drove several miles and the app said I am still at my house. I can exit the app, then go back in and it again quickly finds my correct location. I have GPS and wifi turned on and the location settings have been optimized. Please help.
