Do I have to bring in my old phone and sim card to get a new one?

I recently got a Samsung Note 5. My sim card is too big to fit in the slot and I don't want to cut it. I just want to get a new sim card. I just want to know if I have to bring my old one in or if I can just go in with the phone and get a new one
