S4 is a brick after water damage

Ok, so a customer dropped off a water damaged s4, the lcd was fried, cleaned up all water damage, replaced led display, worked fine, customer ordered a new battery as instructed, she tried another battery from a newer s4 which was not exactly the same, until the new one arrived, now the phone will not fire up at all, am I missing something?

Water damage can be progressive. Perhaps the current from the battery - no matter which battery - accelerated the corrosive effects of impure water remaining in the phone.
