I currently have a SGS4. My new SGS7 is due to arrive tomorrow.

A few years ago, I used an app to backup/restore my messages. But when I restored them, ALL the messages showed as having just arrived.

Is there a way (maybe an app of some sort) to transfer the messages and retain the timestamps?

    Welcome to Android Central!

I don't think there is an app that is going to write the correct times and dates in to the messages. Because they are coming from another device and going to a new one it acts just like a file structure on a PC. It puts in when the file was created on the new device.

Keep the old messages on a folder of your Gmail inbox with SMS Backup + using your Gmail address. All data is kept with them and you can also forward them as email.
