Samsung Galaxy Tab Update

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Gingerbread when I go to update it via settings > about device > softwate update > software update > check for update It says insert sim card.
If I unlock the sim card will I be able to install updates without the sim card?

You can download and sideload the update using odin software. You would lose all data though.
