"Music" stock android music player won't recognise any music

I just recently got a blu life one x and have been having some trouble with music. The phone came with flip cover with a window that gives a clock basic music functions when closed. This music controller seems to work with the stock music player that came pre-downloaded. unfortunately I can't get any music to show up in the app. I've tried emailing myself a m4a file, and I can open it with the stock music player, but even after I downloaded and saved the m4a to the music folder it wouldn't show up in the app. My music is mostly on itunes, so I uploaded it all to google play music, and have it on the google play music on my phone. So now I'm just wanting to get music from google play music to the stock "Music" player. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
