I don't like having to use the power or home button too much, I just want to wave my hand over the phone to wake up.

Welcome to Android Central! I don't think the S7 edge has air gestures. You can use S Voice to wake the phone up--see pg 118 of the manual: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...1.0_160219.pdf

I still use this sensors on my note 3 n900 on marshmallow port from s7 and note 5, Samsung should've kept them optionally

Are you saying you somehow activated Air view on your S7 using parts from an older phone? I would like to do it also if it can be done..

This might be late reply for the question but might help anyone searching for the solution.
Go to: Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction > Easy Screen turn on and toggle ON.

You can now move your hand over the upper sensor to wake up your device without even touching your S7 Edge. Hope this is helpful. Thanks.
