Why won't my dualshock 3 work on phone but it will on tablet?

So yesterday my (micro-usb) otg cable arrived and i tested it out on my nexus 7 2012 running android lollipop and it worked fine. Then I put it into my Letv phone which has usb C and it wouldnt work. I used a micro-usb to usb c adapter and lights started flashing on the controller, but when i tried to use it in any game it wouldn't work. I also plugged a mouse into my phone and that worked fine. I downloaded a sixaxis enabler and that made the first light start flashing but stopped the other 3 but it still won't work.
Anyone know how to fix this?

My phone is also running android lollipop

Neither my phone or tablet are rooted
