Why does my backgroundlock screen change to default after I do updates with my Wi-Fi connected?

Every time I go to update my phone, I connect to Wi-Fi. Once my updates are done I lose my current background and lock screens. They go back to a default screen, plus my icons are all jumbled around on my home screen.
