My phone will not allow me to download/update apps or take photos due to an "Insufficient storage space" error. I have already been through and purged caches and apps but I don't think the problem is that I am actually out of space. If you take a look at the screenshots I took of the device memory, it has calculated that I am using 19.74GB just in applications of the 16GB available. If you keep scrolling in the album you will also see that I have a 64GB SD card where Google Play Music has downloaded 14.7GB of music for offline use. This makes me think the phone is calculating the internal storage space using this data that is on the external drive.

Is there a way to fix this? I have already tried formatting the SD card and uninstalling and reinstalling Google Play Music, which works until I download the music to my external drive again.

Don't know what's going on, but try installing DiskUsage to see where space is actually being taken up. Hopefully, you have room to install it.
