google app shortcut in chrome for android

I was searching for something in chrome, when i saw a lowercase "g" in the bottom right corner. I tapped it and it expanded to show a backspace key, a space bar and a question mark that took me to a link to a description of the google app. Has anybody seen this? It shows up when doing a google search in Chrome for android (Chrome version 50.0.2661.89)

I have the same Chrome version but I haven't noticed anything like that. Could you post a screenshot?

Never seen that before. What phone do you have? What do you get if you tap on the '?' icon?

Nexus 6P, if you tap the "?" it takes me to a description of the google app, the other stuff just acts like parts of the keyboard.

I think it's just an ad for the google app, the weird part is, i have the google app.

Yeah, can't say as that I've ever seen that... Guessing it's just an ad that popped up to promote the Google app. It makes sense... if you are searching for something in Chrome, it's there to remind you that you can search this using the Google app (or Now, or On Tap, etc) rather than going to google.com.

Could be, but I don't use the Google app or Now and it doesn't come up.
