Can't sign into Google account

[AC Question]

I bought a US Cellular Galaxy Mega off a friend and it won't let me sign into Google. I've rebooted and switched my Google settings a thousand times and all it says is that it can't connect to the servers although I can go on the browser and sign in fine. what's the dealio?

Welcome to Android Central! Is it asking you to sign into Google after doing a factory reset? If so, it's probably the Factory Reset Protection feature, which requires you to enter the previous Google account information (i.e., your friend's). This happens if the previous person didn't remove their Google account prior to factory resetting.
