I have a Samsung S3 mini (customer choice) and can't find files on file system

I have an app I'm developing and just got the phone. I am working on understanding the file system. In my app, I wrote a small file to a file which I think/hope was in the data directory for my application. I can't find the directory or file anywhere: I'm looking via Windows file explorer. I can't even find the app. I am running in debug mode, via Android Studio.

Anything in /data is in a hidden directory (read access only to owner, group and root), so you won't see it unless the phone is rooted (or you're logged in as the app that created the directory).
