I have no experience with phones but would like to update my Nexus 4 to Android 6.0 as it isn't supported any more. I have no knowledge of how to do this. Is there a step by step for those of us with no clue how to do this? TIA

You'll have to flash a custom ROM. XDA Forums is a good place to look for one. But if you join as a member - you'd be welcome - you could probably find help from other users in the Nexus 4 forum.

(PC is needed, and you'll need to backup your data that's in your internal storage)
    1) Go to Settings > About device and tap the Build number 7-8 times
    2) Go back, go to Developer options, and enable Android or USB debugging (Press OK on the following screen!)
    3) Download this file on your Windows PC: http://dl.google.com/android/android....1-windows.zip
    4) Open the file with WinRAR (if you have it), navigate to SDK folder and drag it to your desktop
    5) Open Command Prompt, type in:
    Code:
cd <insert your Windows install drive letter here>:/Users/<insert your username here>/Desktop/platform-tools
    (Don't close your Command Prompt)
    6) Enter fastboot mode on your phone (Press and hold Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time until you see Start)
    7) Plug in your phone to your PC, wait while Windows is installing the drivers and type in this in your Command Prompt:
    Code:
    fastboot devices
    fastboot oem unlock
    8) Do the steps 1, 2 and 6 again
    9) Download this file on your PC: https://dl.twrp.me/mako/twrp-3.0.2-0-mako.img
    10) Drag that downloaded file to the platform-tools folder on your Desktop, and run these commands in Command Prompt:
    Code:
    fastboot devices
    fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-mako.img
    (Don't unplug the USB cable)
    11) Download these ZIPs:
    http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/...AO2YJ-mako.zip

    http://opengapps.org/?download=true&...m&variant=pico
    12) Press Volume Down button until Recovery mode option appears (Stop pressing the Volume down button when Recovery mode option appears, and press the Power button)
    13) When you are on this screen: , slide the slider at the bottom of your screen
    14) Now press Wipe > Advanced Wipe, select System, Data, Dalvik cache, Cache and Internal storage and slide a slider at the bottom of your screen (Press Back when it's done)
    15) Go to Mount and make sure that the Disable MTP option exists (If it's Enable MTP, tap on it and go back)
    16) On your PC, transfer those two ZIP files to your root of internal storage
    17) Press Install, select your cm-13.0-20160429-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO2YJ-mako.zip file, press Add more ZIPs, select your file starting with open_gapps and swipe a slider at the bottom of your screen (When this process is finished, unplug your USB cable and close your Command Prompt on your PC)
    18) Press Reboot System and you're done!

Hey guys. Do you know if you can delete system.img and root.ing after successful rooting. These files take up 8gigs of internal memory.
