My Galaxy S6 is frozen on the home screen. Cannot turn it off. HELP!!

I hit button to bring the screen up from black. Screen came on but seemed to freeze half-way. On the screen is part of the keyboard, the time and temperature from that time, approximately 18 hours ago, Charger was plugged in at the time and the battery icon with lightning bolt is displayed with 71% power showing. The time of 7:45 pm is on the screen and has been since then. Date of Sun, May 15 is displayed on screen, and "searching for service" is displayed in upper left corner. I still hear notification sounds. How can I turn the phone off or what can I do to try to reset it?
