unable to send messages. too many unsent multimedia messages on samsung galaxy note 3

I think there was a recent update. I cannot send texts with images or receive them. Also could not access the internet but I changed a setting & that seems ok for now. I went into my messages folder & cleared the cache, it did not fix the issue. Restarted the phone as well. Phone was purchased new and sealed on ebay in Aug 15. Called samsung tech support, was on for over 1 hour. His solution was to clear data on the phone. Before I do this do you have any suggestions?
I have been backing up important messages in case that is the only way. But what a pain..

Speak to your service provider first! they might be able to help with the MMS settings.
