Can any brand of micro SD memory card be used, or must it be a Samsung?

My wife's S5 needs more memory. I have other brands of SD cards, but the recommended brand is Samsung. Is this necessary?

No, Samsung brand is not required. SanDisk will work just as well.

I actually prefer SanDisk for a few reasons. They invented the technology. They're easy to get hold of if you have a problem (and after years of using their products, the only problem I ever had was breaking one of their cards) - SanDisk microSD Tech Support (upper right corner) and you get someone who's not just a clerk reading from a script.

BTW, it's storage, not memory. And you shouldn't store apps there - only data (music, movies, pictures, etc.) Install the card as portable storage if given the choice.
