gear s2 svoice - sorry, your request couldn't be processed

just got a gear s2, trying to use svoice commands. anything I try fails. It appears to listen to me speak, then I get the waiting icon/circle for a few seconds after which it says "sorry, your request couldn't be processed. please try again later"

I tried a factory reset earlier, same results.
I have the latest version of gear installed on my phone, s6

I had the same issue and ultimately tracked it down to having background data off in the Power Savings mode of my phone (S6). Turn off Power Saving mode on your phone and try again. If it works, go into Settings > Battery > Power Saving Mode (on your phone) and turn off "Restrict Background Activity".
