Can I use an unlocked LG G4 on Verizon network?

A

AC Question

I am a Verizon customer using an iPhone 5c. I received as a gift a brand new LG 4G phone, purchased from Amazon, unlocked. Verizon is telling me that this device is not compatible with their network. I certainly want to keep this phone and do not want to go through the hassle of switching networks. I am wondering if there is any way I can cheat the system and use this phone with Verizon... Any ideas are helpful. Thanks so much!

The G4 you have is unlocked for GSM networks, not CDMA networks. It can be used on AT&T, T-Mobile and the MVNOs using those networks.

It cannot be used on Verizon, Sprint or MVNOs using those networks.

A VS986 can be, an LS991 is technically correct for Verizon, but Verizon won't accept it on their network, and the rest of the G4s are GSM, not CDMA, as Laura said, so they won't connect to Verizon (wrong radios and, no, you can't change them). (LG really messed up the designations on the G4 - Samsung's singlle model number-one letter designation is a LOT simpler. If it ends with V, it's a Verizon phone.)
