is the Android launcher update required real?

I received a pop up called Android launcher required. It told me I had to update my phone or my phone would be locked in a day. And that it was bc of people hacking android phones. My phone is a LG straight talk phone powered by android. Is it real????

Welcome to the forums. It doesn't look real at all, most likely a scam trying to convince you to download any shady app. Did it happen while you were using the browser? Which one? Avoid clicking anywhere inside the pop-up and exit using your return key.

Thanks for signing in! If those pop-ups keep showing up you could try clearing data for the browser in settings - apps. Just remember this will delete all your personal information saved in the browser like bookmarks, passwords, etc. Most likely they come from some specific web page that you accessed.
