    So about a week ago I updated my phone to the new Android OS (Lollipop) and immediately noticed a massive drain on the battery (from 100% to 40% within 2.5 hours from unplugging it).

    After trying several other things I finally did a factory reset and it seemed to fix the problem. The following days I routinely was at 60+% after my entire 9 hour work day where I use my phone for several things and have fairly steady usage.

    Now about a week later it's back to dying at a rapid rate losing about 15% of its battery life every hour even when completely idle.

    Anyone have any idea why this is or how I can get it resolved? Do I need to perform yet ANOTHER factory reset and end up manually fixing all my apps to get them back to working the way I need them to, or is there a different solution?

    First, do your battery usage stats offer any clues at the end of a day's use?

    This was my question: Currently "Android System" is WELL in the lead with 36% followed by screen with 8%

    Edit: I charged the phone to 87% over my lunch hour and am down to 34% now (4 hours later).

    Sorry for the delay.

    Yesterday it seemed the issue had resolved itself as I made it a full 9 hour day of work with 78% of the battery life remaining. Today however the issue is back with me having hit 36% after 4 hours from unplugging the phone.

    Putting the phone into safe mode when it hit 33% it has lasted over an hour only having dropped to 31% so the issue doesn't seem to persist in safe mode.

    This suggests that some 3rd party app you installed is the culprit. You may have to start uninstalling apps one by one until the drain stops.

    Is there anyway to narrow the list of possible apps? The battery usage info doesn't even show any apps using more than 5%

    Try installing GSam Battery Monitor and see if it gives you more detailed information.

    I'd focus on apps that refresh data frequently, like social media or news apps.

    I may have solved it by disabling the NHL app that comes preinstalled on Rogers phones. from being at 46% when I went through the apps to 45% now an hour and a half later.

    Maybe not, I disabled/uninstalled every app I don't use on a daily basis but it'll be hard to tell until I've had a longer period to test it.

    Usually firmware upgrade come with a lot of additional app install, remove or disable the unnecessary app is a must to prevent battery drain.

    So GSam is still showing Android System Services far in the lead with over 50% of the usage of my battery. Is it just not showing what app is draining it or is the android system itself causing it? Trying to leave it in safe mode throughout the workday to see what the drain is like on there.

    I'm not sure. If some 3rd party app is utilizing Android System, it may just not be possible to tell from the battery stats.

    I wish I could give you more guidance, but in these situations, sometimes it just takes brute force--uninstalling apps one by one until the problem goes away. Maybe if you show us a list of your installed apps, someone here might recognize a common culprit.
