Enable SD card notification (Marshmallow)

[AC Question]

I transferred some files via USB and afterwards, even though the card is mounted and accessible, the SD card notification with the explore/eject options no longer appears.

I've tried ejecting the card, restarting the device, but no dice. I could only find topics about people trying to disable the notification. I find the direct SD card explorer option really useful, how can I get it back?

Welcome to Android Central! Which device? I've never seen a direct SD card explorer option on any of my devices. I just use a file manager app like Total Commander.

It's a Moto G3, but the notification I'm referring to is the same as shown on this thread. I've only been able to find topics on how to dismiss this notification, but none on how to get it back. Although I don't recall dismissing the notification ever. It simply disappeared after disconnecting the USB cable.

Any recent system updates? It might have gone away with an update.

You could try going to Settings>Apps, tapping Menu, then Reset All App Preferences (but I'm not sure if this will help).

There was a system update installed a while back, but this issue only appeared yesterday. I've already tried resetting all app preferences (including system apps), but no change. I can't really find any instructions on how to enable this feature, only on how to disable it, which just seems really odd.
