Why can't I play youtube videos in desktop view but in mobile view?

I have a galaxy s4 at&t. I can play youtube videos in mobile view but when I switch to desktop veiw the video never loads and has the following message:

"if your video doesn't start shortly, try restarting your device"

Perhaps it's a flash support issue? In desktop view the browser wants to feed you a flash video, BUT your phone does not support flash. (Adobe has pulled out of the mobile space) but on mobile view the browser knows to feed you a HTML 5 or other supported video type. That would be my guess.
