Samsung Note 3 Mini today widget. Default reminder settings?

I love this widget - and use it all the time for inputting work shifts. But I do not need reminder notifications. Is there an option to change default settings to switch reminders off when entering in a new event? I cannot find the option anywhere. This is driving me nuts. I am sure I managed it before on an older version.
To confirm I am referring to the 'mini today' widget on my Galaxy Note 3 thanks in advance
