My LG G3 doesn't indicate acknowledge that the USB cord is plugged in but the phone is charging.

If the cord is connected to the phone there is no acknowledgement from the phone. However, if i unplug the phone after a period of time the battery indicated rises showing the phone had charged even though it didn't indicate it was charging. also, i'm not able to get phone to recognize the USB to use via my car or computer. Thoughts?
