Note 5 won't turn on or charge, any reason why?

So this afternoon my Samsung Note 5 turned off due to low battery but after plugging it to its charger it wouldn't charge. For a brief instance it showed the battery logo and nothing else but I left it like this for a moment and nothing. I unplugged it and tried again a couple of minutes later with the same result. Can anybody please tell me what may be causing this, and a possible solution. My only thought right now is that the battery went bad and I may need to replace it. But I would like others opinions in case I'm wrong. +
