Lack of notification sound on email when it updates

[AC Question]

I’ve read a lot of question about this, but still can’t get an audible sound when an email arrives.

I’ve watched the screen (before it dims) pick up an email, show in the Inbox as new. There is a very short vibrate, but no sound.
In the Email settings I have Email notifications: checked
Choose ringtone: Fomalhaut (when selecting it, it plays the sound OK)
Vibrate: checked

Incoming calls ring OK. Is there something somewhere else that I’ve missed?

Welcome to the forums. What device do you have and what email app are you using? If you're using Gmail go to settings - select account - manage labels and check that the right sound is set for the different labels you want to get notifications.
