Why is service like this?

I have a samsung s4 i9500, i just recently did the lollipop update and just after the update my softkeys stopped working, I did the update via WIFI, when I went to the samsung store in Tyger vally they told me that because my phone is not under warranty they are going to charge me R300 to reload the software and the people at the samsung store in Canal Walk told me that I should not do the OTA update, so then why is the option there and I honestly do not see why I must pay to fix my phone due to faulty software? very dissapointed, I have stuck to samsung for so long just to get this kind of response. what would be advised i do?

Welcome to Android Central! First, try wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the firmware using either Samsung Kies or Smart Switch.
