Access on data of adopted storage without keyfile

A

AC Question

My device didn't boot so I flashed a new ROM. Now my adopted SD storage can't be mounted anymore because apparently it was tied to the old ROM.

My question is: Is there a way to generate the keyfile for the encryption of the adopted storage (e.g. installing the exact same ROM as before and using the same password?)? Is it tied to the unlock password/pin?

Is there any other way to get access to the data of my SD card storage? I used it as a backup device and am now missing years of data.

Apparently, the keyfile lies in /data/misc/vold in the internal storage. Will the same master key be generated if I use the same password like in the old ROM?

That's one (of many) of the problems with adoptive storage.

You can't generate a keyfile - even if you could, at the rate of one per second, it would take you years.

Format the card in a computer, insert it into the phone and start again. Make sure you back up every file on the card to both a laptop (or desktop) AND cloud storage.
