Android 4.1.1 call log not showing missed calls

[AC Question]

I have a cell phone I used exclusively to Russia, but it receives text messages and incoming calls in the US. I count on this to see when there is an incoming call, but to save money, I simply note the phone # and call back. For quite some time, I have noticed that it will show an incoming call, but if I don't immediately write down the number and do pretty much anything, when I go back to the phone's standard call log, there is no trace of it?

I have seen various suggestions, but none seem to solve this problem for me...

I have Android 4.1.1, and am using an unlocked RCA A1 smart phone (with a Russian SIM card, which works fine)...
