how do I turn off group messaging on Samsung Galaxy Note 4?

I love group messaging, but there are times when I don't need to be a part of the group and know everything that my friends are saying. I find that group messages eat up my battery, and I want to turn them off.

Is there a way to turn them off when you are a part of a group message on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4? Please help.
